The women’s 4×200 metre freestyle relay event at the 2000 Summer Olympics took place on 20 September at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre in Sydney Australia.The U.S. women’s team established a new Olympic record to defend their title with the help of a sterling anchor leg from Jenny Thompson. Throughout most of the race the Americans were trailing slightly behind the host nation Australia until Thompson dived into the pool at the final exchange.
