In enzymology a gluconolactonase (EC 3.1.1.17) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionD-glucono-15-lactone + H2O D-gluconateThus the two substrates of this enzyme are D-glucono-15-lactone and H2O whereas its product is D-gluconate.This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is D-glucono-15-lactone lactonohydrolase.
