In enzymology a galactolipase (EC 3.1.1.26) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction12-diacyl-3-beta-D-galactosyl-sn-glycerol + 2 H2O 3-beta-D-galactosyl-sn-glycerol + 2 carboxylatesThus the two substrates of this enzyme are 12-diacyl-3-beta-D-galactosyl-sn-glycerol and H2O whereas its two products are 3-beta-D-galactosyl-sn-glycerol and carboxylate. This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds.
