The Pashtun people (Pashto: پښتانه Pax̌tānə sometimes spelled Pakhtun based on the pronunciation in the northern dialects) known as Afghans in Persian (افغان Afġān) and Pathans in Hindi-Urdu (पठान پٹھان Paṭhān) are an Indo-European ethnicity from the subgroup of Eastern Iranians with populations primarily in Afghanistan and northwestern and western parts of Pakistan.
