In enzymology a L-galactonolactone oxidase (EC 1.3.3.12) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionL-galactono-14-lactone + O2 L-ascorbate + H2O2Thus the two substrates of this enzyme are L-galactono-14-lactone and O2 whereas its two products are L-ascorbic acid and H2O2.This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases specifically those acting on the CH-CH group of donor with oxygen as acceptor.
