The Lötschberg line is a major railway through the Swiss Alps which connects Spiez in the Bernese Oberland with Brig in the Valais. It is part of a major European rail axis connecting Germany northern France and Benelux and Italy. The core of the line was the 14612 meter Lötschberg Tunnel until the opening of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel in 2007.
