Encephalopathy /ɛnˌsɛfəˈlɒpəθi/ means disorder or disease of the brain. In modern usage encephalopathy does not refer to a single disease but rather to a syndrome of global brain dysfunction; this syndrome can have many different organic and inorganic causes.
