In enzymology an aspartate 4-decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.12) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionL-aspartate L-alanine + CO2Hence this enzyme has one substrate L-aspartate and two products L-alanine and CO2.This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the carboxy-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is L-aspartate 4-carboxy-lyase (L-alanine-forming).
