In enzymology a 4-hydroxyphenylacetate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.83) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetate + H+ 4-methylphenol + CO2Thus the two substrates of this enzyme are 4-hydroxyphenylacetate and H+ whereas its two products are 4-methylphenol and CO2.This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the carboxy-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds.
