Before the season Bayern did a major restructuring of their team releasing or retiring nine players while adding ten others to their squad. Luca Toni and Franck Ribéry headlined the signings. The season started with Bayern winning the DFB-Ligapokal followed by a shootout win in the DFB-Pokal against Wacker Burghausen on 6 August 2007. On the first day of the league Bayern achieved a 3–0 victory over Rostock thereby securing the first spot right from the start.
