In October 2003 after a bad start in domestic league Héctor Cúper was sacked and replaced by Alberto Zaccheroni (until June) who failed to pass Champions League group stage and was barely able to lead Inter Milan at fourth place (useful to get into UEFA Champions League in next season) thanks to Adriano and Dejan Stanković (both taken during the winter transfer).
