F.C. Internazionale Milano was once again involved in the battle for the Serie A title coming up just short to Sampdoria who effectively clinched the title due to a 2-0 win over Inter at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with a few rounds left. As a consolation Inter won the UEFA Cup following a 2-0 victory at home and a 1-0 defeat in Rome against Roma in an all-Italian contest in the final.
