The 1949–50 season was Colchester United’s seventh consecutive full season in the Southern Football League. The season ended with Colchester finishing 2nd and being elected to The Football League after only 13 years of existence. They also won the Southern League Cup for the second time in their history with a 6-4 aggregate win over Bath City.
