13179 Johncochrane (provisional designation: 1996 HU18) is a main-belt minor planet. It was discovered by Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory in Chile on April 18 1996. It is named after John Dundas Cochrane a Scottish traveler and explorer of the 19th century.
