13178 Catalan (provisional designation: 1996 HF18) is a main-belt minor planet. It was discovered by Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory in Chile on April 18 1996. It is named after Eugène Charles Catalan a French-Belgian mathematician of the 19th century.
