Zoonosis /ˌzoʊ.əˈnoʊsɨs/ (also spelled zoönosis) describes the process whereby an infectious disease is transmitted between species (sometimes by a vector) from animals other than humans to humans or from humans to other animals (the latter is sometimes called reverse zoonosis or anthroponosis).
