The North Wales Regional Hospital Wrexham Maelor is the main NHS hospital for the North Wales region and the largest hospital in the UK housed in a town rather than a city with 981 beds. It is also the second largest hospital in Wales and was formally housed the North East Wales NHS trust before the merger of all the trusts in North Wales in 2010.As of September 2012 Wrexham Maelor Hospital had a catchment area of over half a million residents.
