Born in Gainesville Alachua County Florida; attended private and public schools and the East Florida Seminary at Gainesville Fla.; engaged in banking and insurance; graduated from the law college of the University of Florida at Gainesville in 1914; admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Gainesville Fla.; secretary to United States Senator Duncan U.
