William Anthony (1934) is an American painter and illustrator born in Fort Monmouth New Jersey in 1934. He attended Yale University getting his undergraduate degree in history. While attending Yale he took a series of art classes including one taught by Josef Albers. In 1958 and 1961 he attended the Art Students League of New York.After graduating from Yale he went to California where his family had moved and attended the San Francisco Art Institute.
