The 2000 West Virginia gubernatorial election took place on November 7 2000 for the post of Governor of West Virginia. Democratic Member of the United States House of Representative Bob Wise defeated incumbent Republican Governor Cecil Underwood. Concurrently the state voted the opposite way federally choosing Republican U.S. Presidential nominee George W. Bush carried the state in the Presidential election that year defeating Democratic nominee Al Gore.
