At the 1900 Summer Olympics a water polo tournament was contested.Eight teams entered the water polo event with one withdrawing before competition. The seven participating teams included four separate French teams with two French teams from the Pupilles de Neptune de Lille swim club. The tournament was played in a single-elimination format with no playoff for third place and two bronze medals were awarded.
