Walter Laufer (July 5 1906 – September 1 1984) was an American competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.In the 1928 Olympics he won a gold medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay event and silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke event. He was also fifth in the 100-meter freestyle event.Laufer was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in 1973.
