Vladimir Afromeev is a businessman and chess player who was born in 1954 in the city of Tula a city located about 120 km from Moscow. In the past few years Afromeev has gained spectacular apparently miraculous improvements in his official FIDE Elo rating leaving him at a current rating of 2646 (67th in the world) and the Fide Master (FM) title as of 1 October 2007. He is currently the only chess player in the top 100 FIDE list without the title of grandmaster.
