Vat Yellow 4 is a yellow synthetic anthraquinone vat dye. It is a bright yellow solid although commercial samples can be viscous orange liquid. This dye is used mostly as a dye for textiles and paper. Together with benzanthrone it is used in some older pyrotechnic compositions for green and yellow colored smokes. It is produced from a suitable dibenzoylnaphthalene by oxidative (dehydrogenative) ring closure.
