The vastus intermedius (/ˈvæstəs ˌɪntərˈmiːdi.əs/) (Cruraeus) arises from the front and lateral surfaces of the body of the femur in its upper two-thirds sitting under the rectus femoris muscle and from the lower part of the lateral intermuscular septum.
