The University of Utah Utes football team was started in 1892 and played three games that year. Although Utah did not field a team in 1893 it resumed played in 1894—once again playing three games. A different person acted as coach each year on a volunteer basis. However the coach of the 1892 season is unknown. The first known head coach was Robert Harkness who coached the 1894 season.
