The United States Senate election of 1888 was an election which coinciding with Benjamin Harrison’s victory over incumbent President Grover Cleveland. The Republican Party would gain an additional twelve seats in the United States Senate mostly from newly admitted States in 1889 and 1890.As this election was prior to ratification of the seventeenth amendment Senators were chosen by State legislatures.
