The 2000 United States Senate election in Vermont took place on November 7 2000. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Jim Jeffords won re-election to a second term. Jeffords switched from being a Republican to an independent who would caucus with the Democratic Party thus breaking the 50-50 lock.
