The Tropical Andes is a biodiversity hotspot named the global epicenter of biodiversity according to the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund.[citation needed]The Tropical Andes area is an area of rich biodiversity. This location holds about 45000 plant species of which 20000 are endemic. There are over 3000 vertebrate species with about 1500 endemic.
