In chemistry the organic compound triphenylene is a flat polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) consisting of four fused benzene rings. Triphenylene can be isolated from coal tar but it is also made synthetically using benzyne chemistry as it is a trimer of benzyne.
