Tomás Vélez Cachupín was the colonial governor of New Mexico between 1749 and 1754 y en 1761. He could be considered as one of the best governors of New Mexico. For his courage and compassion in the war of San Diego Pond won him great respect among the Comanches Utes and Apaches and therefore he could shake peaceful ties with nomadic tribes in the province.
