The Dead-Beat is a poem by Wilfred Owen. It deals with the atrocities of World War I. The final version of the poem was developed while Owen was a patient at Craiglockhart a hospital for officers suffering mental illness. He received help from the poet Siegfried Sassoon in revising the novel and Owen described the experience in a letter suggesting that the middle sections needed work.
