A general election for 24th House of Representatives took place throughout Thailand on Sunday 3 July 2011 by virtue of the Royal Decree Dissolving the House of Representatives 2554 BE (2011) which caused the House of Representatives to be dissolved on 10 May 2011.The protestors of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) or Red Shirts who occupied downtown Bangkok in April and May 2010 had demanded new elections.
