Tenericutes (tener cutis: soft skin) is a phylum of bacteria that contains the Class Mollicutes. The name was validated in 1984 as a new division (= phylum). The Tenericutes lack a cell wall and therefore are Gram negative. Notable genera includes the Mycoplasma Ureaplasma and Phytoplasma.
