Tamasheq is a variety of Tuareg principally spoken in the area around Timbuktu. There are two divergent dialects Timbuktu (Tombouctou Tanaslamt) and Tadghaq (Kidal).The name Tamasheq is sometimes applied to the Tuareg languages in general.
