The men’s 100 metre butterfly event at the 2008 Olympic Games took place on 14–16 August at the Beijing National Aquatics Center in Beijing China.U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps blasted a new Olympic record of 50.58 to defend his title in the event edging out Serbia’s Milorad Čavić (50.59) by one hundredth of a second (0.01). He also earned his seventh Olympic gold at a single Games tying Mark Spitz’s 1972 record for the most gold medals.
