The Statue of Gandhi is a public monument in Washington DC erected in front of the Indian Embassy on Embassy Row. A gift from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations it was dedicated on September 16 2000 during a state visit of Indian President Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the presence of US President Bill Clinton.It pictures Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in ascetic garb in reference to his 1930 march against a salt tax in India. The statue was designed by Gautam Pal a sculptor in Kolkata.
