Sodium polysulfide is a general term for a chemical with the notation Na2Sx where the x refers to a variable number of sulphur atoms in the molecules that make up the mixture including disulfide trisulfide and tetrasulfide possibilities. It is produced through a reaction of aqueous sodium hydroxide with sulphur at elevated temperatures. It is highly alkaline and extremely corrosive.
