Sjögren’s syndrome (pronounced /ˈʃoʊɡrɨn/ SHOH-grin or /ˈʃʌrɡrɨn/ SHUR-grin in English)[citation needed] is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s white cells destroy the exocrine glands specifically the salivary and lacrimal glands that produce saliva and tears respectively.
