Siegbert Tarrasch (5 March 1862 – 17 February 1934) was one of the strongest chess players and most influential chess teachers of the late 19th century and early 20th century.Tarrasch was born in Breslau (Wrocław) Prussian Silesia. Having finished school in 1880 he left Breslau to study medicine in Halle. Later he lived most of his life with his family in Nuremberg Bavaria and later in Munich. He had five children.
