The Shenzhen Open (also known as the Shenzhen Gemdale Open due to sponsorship reasons) is a tournament organized for female professional tennis players. It is played on outdoor hard courts as a warm-up event two weeks prior the Australian Open in the first week of January. The tournament is making its debut in 2013 in Shenzhen China. In late 2013 it was announced that Shenzhen had won the ATP Thailand Open franchise. The men’s tournament will be played in September.
