Serotonin /ˌsɛrəˈtoʊnɨn/ or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter. Biochemically derived from tryptophan serotonin is primarily found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract platelets and the central nervous system (CNS) of animals including humans.
