The Sendai Subway (仙台市地下鉄 Sendai-shi Chikatetsu) is a subway system in Sendai Miyagi Japan operated by the Sendai City Transportation Bureau. It consists of a single line the Nanboku Line which opened in 1987. Construction of a second line the Tōzai Line began in 2004 with a planned opening date of 2015.The subway was damaged in the 11 March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and shut down. It reopened on 29 April 2011.
