Screen Singapore was held in August 2005 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the independence of Singapore to celebrate the heritage of Singaporean cinema from pre-independence days to present.Presenting a total of 31 feature films (17 vintage ones from 1955 to 1978 and 14 contemporary ones from 1995 to 2005) plus 15 short films (from 1996 to 2004) over an entire month it was and has remained the largest showcase of Singaporean cinema.
