The Saint Paul City Council is the governing body of the City of Saint Paul as part of a strong mayor–council government. There are 7 members from 7 wards who are elected to four-year terms. Kathy Lantry a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) is the current president of the council. The council is completely controlled by members of the DFL with all 7 members being affiliated with the party.
