Robert Claudius Billing was an Anglican Suffragan Bishop from 1888 to 1898. Born into a clerical family he was educated at Worcester College Oxford and ordained in 1857 and began his career with a curacy at St Peter’s Colchester followed by a period as Secretary of the Church Missionary Society. In 1863 he became Vicar of Louth. After this he was Rural Dean of Spitalfields and then Suffragan Bishop. He died (technically) in post on 21 February 1898 having ceased active work in 1895.
