The Rio de Janeiro Metro (Portuguese: Metrô Rio IPA: [mɛˌtɾo ˈʁi.u] commonly referred to as just the Metrô [Meˈtɾo]) in Rio is a mass-transit underground railway network that serves the city of Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The Metrô was inaugurated on March 5 1979 with five stations operating on one line.
