Karl Richard Hanitsch (22 December 1860 – 11 August 1940) was a German-born entomologist and museum curator who served as the director of the Raffles Museum in Singapore in the early 20th century.Hanitsch was born at Grossenstein in Thuringia Germany. He studied at the University of Jena where he obtained his PhD. From 1887 to 1895 he was employed as a demonstrator of zoology at University College Liverpool. He married Ethel Vernon in 1892 with whom he had two sons and three daughters.
