Reverse transcriptase (RT) is an enzyme used to generate complementary DNA (cDNA) from an RNA template a process termed reverse transcription. RT is needed for the replication of retroviruses (e.g. HIV) and RT inhibitors are widely used as antiretroviral drugs.
