The Railway Stakes is a Group One New Zealand horse race. Held at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day it is held over 1200 metres one of New Zealand’s feature sprint races.Among its most famous winners are Diamond Lover (who broke the Ellerslie track record running 1:07.79 in her Railway win) Tudor Light Mayo Gold Yahabeebe and the great Mr Tiz who won the race three times.The last five years have seen two of the biggest upsets in the history of the race.
